How to Manage Your Account
- Make sure to log all checks, ATM withdrawals and deposits in your check register.
- Remember to write down your automatic transfers to your Savings / CD and deduct it from your current balance.
- Log any account service charges at the beginning of each month and deduct it from your current balance.
- Balance your checkbook weekly. It is important to always be aware of the amount you have in your account. This one simple thing will help you avoid fees and gain financial control over your money.
- If you use an ATM that is not owned by First Reliance, remember that you will be assessed a fee and you need to record it. Then you can let us know and we will credit it back to your account. For ATM fee refunds call 1-888-543-5510.
Checking Account Use
- Do not write checks or use your Debit/ ATM Card unless you have a current balance large enough to cover the transaction amounts. Go by the balance in your checkbook instead of the balance on the ATM or Online Banking.
- Do not tell anyone else your Online Banking passwords or Personal Identification Number.
- Control when you pay your bills. Use online bill pay to electronically pay your bills and do not allow others to automatically debit your account. When you pick the date to make online payments, you are less likely to overdraft your account.
Why Manage Your Account Well?
- Protect your credit score. Successful checking account management will reduce the chance of checking account fraud, NSF (non-sufficient funds) occurrences and late payments, all of which can negatively affect your reputation and also harm your credit record.
- Keep your account balance positive. Accounts that become over drawn 30 days will become restricted and unable to be used until your account is brought back to a positive balance. Also, you will not be able to use your ATM card until your account has a positive balance.
- Everyone makes mistakes. Call your personal banker for information on how to manage your account better and fix any errors you have made. The sooner you correct your mistake, the faster you are back in control of managing your account.
